Who has won the most money so far this year at the pro rodeo in San Antonio? Hint, that is a trick question. The answer is not a person, but a horse.
Famed roping horse “Peso” (Daddys Shiner Cat) is the superstar of his bracket at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo in Frost Bank Center.
Three contestants roped on Peso during Bracket 3, and combined they won over $14,000 on Peso over three rounds.
Ty Harris, Kyle Lucas, and Peso’s owner, Logan Bird, all roped on the equine athlete in San Antonio. In round three of their bracket, those contestants placed first, second, and third in the go-round. Day money won on Peso from that round alone is over $6,300.
Both Ty Harris and Kyle Lucas are coming back for a semifinal, so Peso has a chance to win even more money if mounted out.
In a similar roping event, a few breakaway ropers dominated their brackets. Martha Angelone won over $7,300 in Bracket 2, and she advances as the high money earner from her bracket.
Angelone won the first and second round in Bracket 2, and she placed second in the third round. She won more money this year in breakaway than any other roper so far in that event.
Aspen Miller also dominated in breakaway roping. Much like Angelone, Miller won the first and second round in her bracket. Miller then placed third in Round 3.
In bareback riding, Sage Allen won two of the three rounds in his bracket. Allen also placed third in the other round. Allen is advancing from Bracket 2 as the high money earners so far in bareback riding.
Another contestant to win two rounds is Tucker Allen, who won the first and second round in Bracket 1 of steer wrestling.
In another timed event, Clay Smith and Coleby Payne had the fastest time in team roping so far this year in team roping with 3.6 seconds.
Other contestants to win two rounds including Oceane Veilleux, who won rounds in barrel racing. Stetson Wright topped two rounds, but he split the win in one of the rounds.
Overall halfway through the brackets in San Antonio, the semifinals are taking shape. Here are unofficial results and payouts:
