The first performance in the PRCA brackets kicked off Thursday night in Denver at the National Western Stock Show.
The Stock Show itself started almost a week ago, which also included several different rodeos events like the Mexican Rodeo Extravaganza, Colorado vs. The World, and the PBR Velocity Tour. With the start of the bracket format, the more traditional PRCA rodeos begin. The format itself is a still a little unconventional, but on par with other major rodeos throughout the year.
Spanning 20 perfs over 11 days, the format begins with the brackets. Those are essentially a two-header. Contestants compete in two full rounds in each bracket. From there, those that qualify move on to the semi-finals in a tournament style format, eventually progressing to the short-go for the finals. Contestants that competed on Thursday night get another go this afternoon in a Friday matinee.
