Stetson Wright sits down with Cole and Ty Harris for a candid conversation on the latest episode of Let’s Freakin’ Rodeo.
Told he should seek a new profession, Wright is back on the rodeo trail after an injury that threatened his career. On Let’s Freaking Rodeo, Wright recalls his journey from injury to recovery.
Opening up about his recovery, Wright details the initial injury and surgery on his severely torn hamstring. Wright talks about re-injuring the hamstring on a bucking horse in the practice pen.
His family and some of his closest friends were there when Wright suffered his injury for a second time. They then witnessed his triumphant return in an emotional practice session, and that was before they even knew doctors advised Stetson his rodeo career was done.
Wright says he withheld the severity of his diagnosis from many in his family, as he was determined to return. His family was still in tears after seeing his first ride on a bronc in 14 months, .
Instead of seeking a new line of work, Stetson sought a second opinion. Another doctor was so confident in his work as a surgeon, he told Stetson the hamstring would never tear again. Wright is confident too, after working through his own doubts.
Wright opens up about fears his career might be over because of the severity of the injury. Maybe he could still ride bulls, but he was unsure about every riding broncs again. He talks about the mental game of returning, and battling self-doubt.
Flashback to the National Finals Rodeo in 2023, Stetson has to withdraw from competition after only the second round. He recalls going into that NFR with the hamstring injury. Wright says he could handle the pain, but his body would not work the same.
Fast forward to 2025, and Stetson says he is 100% back. His goal is winning a triple crown in rodeo, which is a world championships in bull riding, bronc riding, and the all-around.
Stetson also talks on the podcast about his family, including the greatness of brother Ryder Wright. Aside from family, Stetson also talks about his friendship with Ky Hamilton.
Talking about his love for rodeo, Stetson also explains why his chooses to rodeo over going to PBR.
Faith is also a topic of conversation on the podcast, which includes an inspiring story Ty Harris tells about an interaction with Stetson at The American Rodeo a few years ago.
Ty was preparing to rope in the short go at The American when Stetson offered some moving words of advice. Harris would go on to win the tie-down roping that year at The American.
Stetson just happened to pass while Ty was waiting to rope. Ty was super anxious and nervous. Not knowing what the words would mean to Ty in that moment, Stetson simply says to him, “Go win.”
Those happened to be the last words Ty’s grandmother told him before she passed away.
“Go win.”
Hearing Stetson say those same two words brought a sense of calm, and he went on to achieve a monumental win in his career.
After hearing those words and feeling that sense of peace, Ty knew in that moment he was winning The American. Then he did.
Stetson had never even heard the story, unaware those two words meant so much to Ty. Now we can all take inspiration from that simple piece of advice.
More about that story and Stetson Wright himself on the latest episode of Let’s Freaking Rodeo.
