Dixie National is underway in Jackson, MS

Known as the biggest rodeo east of the Mississippi River, performances are underway at the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo in Jackson, MS.

Dixie National is a non-profit organization from the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce. Held annually at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds, the pro rodeo itself at Dixie National runs from February 7-15.

The pro rodeo competition is nine performances over seven days, with two performances on Saturdays. Then on Sunday, February 16 is a high school rodeo.

The Dixie National event began on January 3 with a cutting horse show. A team roping was also held in conjunction with the event, along with numerous livestock shows and agriculture competitions. Horse and mule shows are part of the event as well, along with trade shows and such.

A concert follows every pro rodeo performance with acts like Zach Top, Ella Langley, Clay Walker, Lorrie Morgan, Gretchen Wilson, and more.

The pro rodeo is part of the PRCA Playoff Series, and quite possibly the biggest rodeo of the year in the Deep South.

Pro rodeo performances are sanctioned by the PRCA, and the barrel racing by the WPRA. Most of the events are a one-header.
