Tournament format at San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo

The pro rodeo tournament begins tonight at the San Antonio Stock Show with the first of five brackets at Frost Bank Center.

The PRCA rodeo in San Antonio is made up of 19 performances altogether, and seven brackets of contestants. The brackets are a three-header, with three full rounds in each bracket.

Top four money earners from their bracket advance to the semifinals, and then the top four money earners in the semifinals move on to the finals.

The 10 contestants from the semifinals not advancing to the finals go into a wildcard round on the afternoon of February 22. Those wildcard contestants have one more chance to qualify for the finals. First place from each event in the wildcard advance to the finals later that evening.

Contestants eligible for the tournament include the the top 35 in the 2024 PRCA world standings in each event. Eligibility is also open to the top five contestants from the 2025 world standings, along with 10 contestants in each event from the qualifier rodeo held in Uvalde, TX.

From the WPRA side of the tournament, the barrel racing is similar to the PRCA tournament except for the actual numbers. Top 32 from the 2024 WPRA world standings in barrel racing are eligible for San Antonio. Also eligible are the top four from the 2025 world standings, along with top 10 from the qualifier in Uvalde.

The top 10 from the 2024 WPRA world standings in breakaway roping are eligible, and top 40 breakaway ropers from the 2025 world standings.

Bracket competition starts tonight (Feb. 6) with the first round of Bracket 1, and that concludes with the third round of Bracket 5 on Feb. 19. Semifinals are Feb. 20-21. The wildcard round is a matinee perf on Feb. 22. The tournament final is the evening of Feb. 22.
