Professional Bull Riders brought their Unleash the Beast Tour to California for three nights at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. The PBR event included three long rounds and a short go, along with a Team Challenge contest.

Two bull riders go four-for-four in Sacramento, and the longest buck-off streak comes to an end. A veteran of the sport achieved a career milestone, and an up-and-comer took a beating only to come back and prove his grit.

Castro wins event and Rossetto shows out

Luciano De Castro wins his first event title since 2018 with a victory in Sacramento. Castro covered bulls in all four rounds. In the second round alone, Castro got on three different bulls after two rerides.

The points from the win in Sacramento move Castro to third place in the world standings. Castro is 94 points behind Brady Fielder, who remains at first place in the world standings despite three buck offs in Sacramento.

Castro won $49,083.33 in Sacramento, and he earned 169 points in the Unleash the Beast standings.

Besides Castro, Paulo Eduardo Rossetto was the only other bull rider in Sacramento to cover all four of their bulls. Rossetto, who can ride with either hand, put on a show for the lively crowd in California. Rossetto finished second behind Castro in the event standings.

Rossetto rode with his left hand in the first round, and then his right hand in the second round. He kept switching it up throughout the event depending on what suited him.

Cool Whip’s streak ends

Sandro Batista ended the historic buck-off streak of bucking bull Cool Whip. The bull came into the event with 48 consecutive buck-offs. That ended for good on Sunday afternoon in Sacramento, when Batista rode Cool Whip for 89.75 points in the short go.

Batista’s ride on Cool Whip came in the short go, and it helped Batista finish in fifth place in the overall event standings. Batista on Cool Whip has the second highest ride of the short go, with Castro riding Gene’s Best for 90.75 points.

JRV passes milestone

Joao Ricardo Vieira surpassed 450 qualified rides in his PBR career, which puts him in the top five on the list of most qualified rides.

Vieira rode Blackstone in the second round to reach the 450 milestone. Vieira then went on to ride another bull in the next go-round, bringing his total to 451.

Winckler wows

In contrast to the 40-year old Vieira, there is 18-year-old Ethan Winckler. He covered his first bull on an Unleash the Beast Tour event, but not without taking a beating beforehand.

Buck Nasty spectacularly bucked off Winckler in the first round, where only 10 bull riders covered their bulls. Buck Nasty turned Winckler for a flip, and Buck Nasty earned a 46.75-point bull score.

Winckler came back in the second round to cover Joy’s Bang Bang. While Winckler would also ride The Don in the third round, before bucking off in the short go. Regardless, Winckler impressed people with his grit.

Other rides showcased grit, including Sage Kimzey on Booker’s Bandit in the third round. Kimzey had a hold only on the tail of the bullrope, and Kimzey got a score after an official review.

Brady Fielder is still no. 1 in the world standings, but Fielder was bucked off three bulls in Sacramento. John Crimber remains in second place in the standings, but Crimber is also still out with an injury. Castro moves into third place in the standings with the win from Sacramento.
