Two brackets wrapped up over the weekend in the pro rodeo tournament at the Forth Worth Stock Show & Rodeo in Dickies Arena.
Bracket 5 concluded with a Saturday morning performance that started at 11:00 am local time, and it began with a bang for breakfast in bareback riding.
A collection of outstanding bucking horses and talented cowboys led to some high scores, including two scores at 90 or more.
Most impressive overall was Tilden Hooper, who was the high money earner in his bracket of bareback riding. Hooper is coming back for the semifinals after two 90-point rides in Bracket 5.
Hooper was 90 points on Smith Pro Rodeo’s Risky Business to win the first round of Bracket 5 on Friday evening. Hooper came back Saturday morning and scored another 90-point ride on Pickett Pro Rodeo’s Nightflight.
While 90 points might win most go-rounds, Clayton Biglow and Pickett’s famed Nightcrawler would best that score by a half-point. Biglow won the second round of Bracket 5 with a 90.5-point ride.
Bracket 6 of bareback riding had another rank pen of bucking horses in the second round on Sunday afternoon. The horses pummeled a few cowboys, but they fought back. Rodeo veteran Will Lowe took a beating after the whistle on his horse in round two, yet Lowe still hung in there to earn a wild card berth.
In the other bucking horse event at FWSSR, Statler Wright dominated after splitting Round 1 in Bracket 5, and then he outright won Round 2.
In Bracket 6 of saddle bronc riding, Zeke Thurston and Jake Finlay each won a go-round. Both had 89-point scores to win, with Thurston winning the first round and Finlay taking the second round.
In the timed events side of the rodeo, fast times continue in breakaway roping. Bracket 5 of breakaway had Maddy Deerman win the first round with a 1.9-second run. Bailey Bates then won the second round with with a time of 2.0 seconds. Both Bates and Deerman are moving on the finals.
Jenna Dallyn dominated in breakaway roping in Bracket 6, as Dallyn won both go-rounds to sweep her bracket. Her time of 1.8 seconds in the first round is the fastest time of the rodeo so far in breakaway roping.
