Recent Headlines from Rodeo Lariat

– FRIDAY ROUNDUP –

Tonight is the start of the PRCA tournament at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. While the National Western Stock Show in Denver remains ongoing with their own format in another time zone. FWSSR airs on The Cowboy Channel at 8:30 ET (7:30 local time) nightly, with the National Western airing afterwards.

Other PRCA sanctioned rodeos start tonight across the United States, not to mention the countless amateur rodeos and jackpots tonight across the country as well.

PBR brings their Unleash the Beast Tour to Pittsburgh, which is not without controversy. This is the first rodeo-related event in Pittsburgh since the city banned rodeo in 1992. PBR Pittsburgh streams live on YouTube, RidePass on Pluto TV, and on PBR’s social media platforms. 

Besides the Northeast, PBR has Velocity Tour stops in Grand Rapids, MI and Tulsa, OK. PBR also has a Touring Pro Division event with the Rainsville Bull Bash in Rainsville, AL.

The East Regionals of the American Contender Tournament is ongoing in Lexington, KY. That streams tonight on Teton Ridge+. Likewise, JB Mauney is in Lexington with The Mauney Cast starting at 8pm ET on YouTube. The short-go of the East Regionals is scheduled to air on FS1 at 6 pm ET on Saturday. A post-show begins following the rodeo on Teton Ridge+.

Cord McCoy joins the news crew on set at KWTV in Oklahoma City to talk about the last rodeo at the Jim Norick Arena before its demolition.

KWTV has another story that claims the arena is “set to host its final rodeo this weekend before the National Finals Rodeo officially moves to Las Vegas.” Whoa, hold up there. What year is it?

The Jim Norick Arena actually hosted the NFR from 1965 to 1978. The NFR then moved to The Myriad in Oklahoma City, before eventually heading west to Las Vegas in 1985.
