Below freezing temperatures are causing the Montana State University rodeo team to cancel their plans for a trip to Washington, D.C.
The inauguration ceremony for President-elect Donald Trump is moving indoors, and plans for an outdoor parade are out in the cold.
The MSU team cannot participate in the Presidential Inauguration due to the inauguration ceremonies moving inside the United States Capitol Rotunda.
The Bobcat Rodeo Team received and accepted an invitation to participate in the Inaugural Parade last fall. However, MSU updated their press release on Friday evening to announce the change of plans, which is due to extremely cold weather in the forecast.
“On behalf of [MSU Rodeo Coach Kyle] Whitaker, our student-athletes, Bobcat Athletics and Montana State University, I want to express our gratitude for the invitation to represent Montana and MSU in the Inaugural Parade,” said Director of Athletics for MSU, Leon Costello.
The MSU team was supposed to take part in the parade along with about 40 other units, according to a report by Jack Reaney of Explore Big Sky. Donors, ranchers and corporate sponsors pledged money to pay for the rodeo team’s trip to D.C., which reportedly was going to cost around $50,000.
President-elect Trump announced on Friday via social media that the inauguration will be held indoors in the Capitol Rotunda. The swearing-in ceremony was last moved indoors in 1985 when President Ronald Reagan began his second term.
Capital One Arena, an indoor arena that seats roughly 20,000 people, will simulcast the ceremonies taking place in the Capitol Rotunda. The arena will also host a presidential parade, albeit slimmed down from the plans that included the Bobcat Rodeo Team.
