IFR55

The 55th International Finals Rodeo is underway at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK.

The site also posted full results from the first round of the IFR. 

The second performance of IFR55 is tonight at 7:30pm CST. IFR airs on The Cowgirl Channel, along with streaming on Cowboy Channel+ and NexGen Rodeo.

Rodeo ban

Pittsburgh’s NPR station, WESA, has a story on the Pennsylvania lawmaker seeking to reinstate a ban on rodeo in “The Steel City.”

ABC affiliate WHTM also has a story on banning rodeo in Pennsylvania cities. 

The San Diego Union Tribune published a letter to the editor that defends the sport of rodeo, which relates to the local controversy over the San Diego Rodeo at Petco Park.

Denver

The Denver Gazette features a great profile on Paul Andrews, who is retiring as President and CEO of the National Western Stock Show & Complex.

KDVR in Denver has an article on the PBR and the National Western agreeing to a deal that extends their partnership for five years. Our own story about the deal is here.

Fort Worth

NBC affiliate KXAS-TV details the rodeo parade kicking off the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. The article features Megan Gay Maier and Summer Gay of Rafter G Rodeo Company. Those two will lead the parade, along with the nightly grand entry at the rodeo itself. The parade also has 3,000 horses and a local Olympic medalist.

Bobcat Rodeo Team

Montana-based media outlet Explore Big Sky has a detailed article on the MSU rodeo team and their trip to the United States Capitol for Inauguration Day. The trip is reportedly costing the Bobcat Rodeo Team around $50,000.

Sponsors stepped up to fund the trip. The donors and companies include: Mike Hope of the Rocking R Bar; Paul Makarechian of Lone Mountain Ranch; Mike Ingram of Ingram Quarter Horses; Teton Ridge; Outlaw Partners, the publisher of Explore Big Sky; Ryan Growney of the South Point Hotel; and the parent of a rodeo team member.
